What a shutdown means

For a player, a shutdown is the end of the game with whatever progress they had. Some publishers offer a way to keep purchases or save data. Some do not. The final announcement and the support page are the places to check.

For a small studio, a shutdown is a reminder of why offline play matters. A game that works on the device, with progress kept there, does not depend on a server staying switched on. That is one reason our own games are built offline first.

Questions people ask

What happens to my progress when a game shuts down?

It is lost unless the publisher offers a way to keep it. Check the game's final announcement and its support page.

Why does this matter to a mobile studio?

It is a reminder that a game can disappear when its servers are switched off. We think about how much of a game still works offline.
