The ranking is the same in every suit, whether or not it is trump.
Points
| Card | Points each | Total in the deck |
|---|---|---|
| Jack | 3 | 12 |
| 9 | 2 | 8 |
| Ace | 1 | 4 |
| 10 | 1 | 4 |

| Total | 29 |
Bidding
- Bidding starts with the player after the dealer, holding four cards.
- The minimum is 16 and the maximum is 28. Each bid must be higher than the last.
- Once you pass, you are out for the hand.
- The bidder places one card face down. Its suit becomes the trump.
- The bidder's team must collect at least the bid in points.
Play
- The player after the dealer leads any card.
- Everyone must follow suit if they can.
- If you cannot follow suit, you may discard any card, or ask for the trump to be revealed.
- After the reveal, trumps beat every other suit. A player who cannot follow suit may play a trump.
- The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, unless a trump was played. Then the highest trump wins.
- The winner of a trick leads the next one. There are eight tricks in a hand.
Scoring a hand
- Count the point cards in your team's tricks, and add one for the last trick.
- If the bidding team makes its bid, it gains one game point. If it falls short, it loses one.
- Reach +6 to win the match. Fall to −6 to lose it.
Marriage
The King and Queen of the trump suit, held by one player.
- It can be declared only after the trump is revealed, and only by a player whose team has already won a trick.
- If the bidding team declares it, the target drops by 4, to a minimum of 16.
- If the defending team declares it, the bidding team's target rises by 4, to a maximum of 28.
- The full marriage guide.
Double and redouble
- After the bid, a defender may say double. The hand is now worth 2 game points.
- The bidding team may answer redouble, making the hand worth 4 game points.
- How doubling works.
Seventh card
Instead of choosing a trump, the bidder may call seventh card. The seventh card they receive becomes the trump indicator, and it stays face down until the reveal. The seventh-card gamble.
Single hand
The bidder can play alone. The partner's cards are set aside, and the bidder must make the bid against two opponents. Single hand in 29.
