Hazari and 29 both count points: what carries from one to the other

Hazari and 29 look different on the table, but both are scored in points, and both reward planning. A good Hazari player counts the groups in a hand. A good 29 player counts the points still out. Learning one can help with the other, so here is what carries across and what to practise for each.

What 29 asks

In 29 the bidder promises a number of points. The Jack and nine carry most of the points, and the trump suit changes how the hand plays out. Counting the points still in play is the core habit.

What Hazari asks

In Hazari you split thirteen cards into winning groups and race to 1000 points. The skill is in the split, and in knowing when a group is worth keeping.

What carries across

Counting is the main link. In 29 you count the points still in play. In Hazari you count the groups you can still make. Both games punish the player who stops counting. Reading the score and the table matters in both.

Questions people ask

Does Hazari use trump?

Hazari is a partition game, and the scoring depends on the groups you make. Check the rules in the app you use.
